Chester County nbis bridge inspections
Orth-Rodgers & Associates, Inc. (ORA) has been retained by the Department
of Transportation (PENNDOT) to perform periodic bridge inspections of
424 state owned bridges in Chester County, Pennsylvania. All inspections
are to be completed in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection
Standards.
All bridge inspections were completed by ORA’s PENNDOT Certified
Bridge Safety Inspectors. Additionally inspectors working around railroads
attended AMTRAK Safety Training.
ORA was required to inspect a wide variety of single and multi-span structures.
These structure types include steel trusses, steel through girders, steel
I-beams, prestressed concrete I-beams, prestressed concrete adjacent
and spread box beams, cast-in-place concrete T-beams and slabs, concrete
and stone masonry closed spandrel arches, concrete open spandrel arches,
concrete box culverts as well as covered bridges containing both timer
and steel members. These bridges crossed waterways, roadways and railways.
Several bridges required the use of traffic control procedures and specialized
inspection access equipment including snoopers and bucket trucks. Other
bridges have been accessed using ladders, boats and free-climbing. Access
to bridges over railroads was coordinated through AMTRAK and Norfolk-Southern.
