Sr 1001, Section A02 Bridge replAcment (Queens Run Road)

Orth-Rodgers & Associates, Inc. (ORA) was retained by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) District 2-0 to complete preliminary and final design for the replacement of SR 1001 (Queens Run Road) over Queens Run.

The project involved the design of a new bridge structure and the realignment of two roadway intersections at either end of the bridge. The new bridge will be relocated slightly downstream of the existing bridge which will be used to maintain traffic during construction. The bridge has an out to out width of 33’-8” and a span of 42’-5” and will be constructed on a horizontal curve. The structure consists of prestressed concrete spread box beams with a composite cast-in-place deck and PA Type 10M railing.

In addition to the structural work, ORA completed the realignment of both intersections, the design of the new approach roadways, Maintenance and Protection of Traffic Control design and safety review submission. The environmental studies for this project included coordination of an archaeological site, wetland delineation and preparation of the Joint Permit Application for Queens Run which is designated a High Quality Cold Water Fishery.

This project is currently nearing completion and construction should begin in summer 2008.
