Savannah Gully Coastal Flood Wall

Services Provided: Public Outreach; Geotechnical Engineering; Hydraulic and Hydrological Analysis; Structural Engineering

Construction Cost: $4-6M USD

The Problem:  To prevent wave run up associated with hurricanes along the southern coast in the Savannah Area from flooding over 500 homes and businesses.

The Solution:  The preferred solution was a soldier pile wall with a cast-in-place concrete facing.  The 2000 linear foot wall will be set at elevation 19 m.s.l. and it’s height above the surface will range from 2-7 feet.  The wall is anticipated to be  90% effective against the wave run up associated with a Category 2 hurricane (the design storm) and it will sustain the force of  a Category 5 hurricane.
