ORA offers a wide range of engineering and planning services that fall under the broad title of Traffic ranging from Basic: traffic studies and traffic operations support, to the more Esoteric: transportation planning; and the Exotic: Intelligent Transportation Systems. From its inception, ORA has been known for innovations in traffic engineering and transportation planning. Whether the study area is question is a single intersection or small segment of roadway within one Municipality, or encompasses many towns as part of a corridor study, our approach remains the same: we work directly with local officials, businesses, and residents to develop a menu of conceptual recommendations covering vehicular, transit, pedestrian, and bicycle modes. These recommendations may include changes in policy and local regulations; low-cost improvements such as signs, markings, and signal phasing; or timing alterations or physical improvements such as changes in roadway configuration or new roadways. The ORA Traffic group provides innovative solutions to immediate problems from the simple retiming of a single signalized intersection or multiple intersections in a coordinated system, to serving as the prime contractor delivering a turn-key ITS initiative as ORA did for the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s award-winning Fog Detection, Traveler Information and Dynamic Traffic Control System. Our planning initiatives range from Needs Assessment and Point of Access Studies to the setting of policy and procedure as ORA did by authoring the Traffic Calming Manual for the State of Pennsylvania.
